Back a week

So, here I am, back in Ulsan. I've been in to Benchwarmers once, for my friend Andy's bridal shower/stagette party. That was fun. Andy and I met in the Vancouver airport on our first trip to Korea. I overheard the girl behind me saying she was going to teach English in Ulsan, so I turned around and introduced myself, and passed along Fin's phone number so she'd have someone to call. She's getting married to Gino, a very friendly, fun Newfie who's been here for a while. The shower was interesting, as it was all girls who've been in Ulsan pretty much the whole time I've been here - sort of the last of the golden years. At one point we mostly hung out with totally different crowds of people, but everyone else has gone...

I'm a little bored during the days, as I'm not working yet - I've had 3 excellent job offers since I got back (without looking), but they're all at the very opposite end of the city, which will be a less than fun commute on a motorbike in the middle of winter. I also need Bren to send my degree - it got left on a bookshelf by accident when I left Wyoming... I need it to prove to my future employer that I'm a qualified English instructor. "Qualified" being a subjective term.

But, in one week Bertrand and I will be heading off to Vietnam. We plan on rock climbing in Halong Bay, and maybe trying some SCUBA diving (he's qualified, I'd have to take a course) or snorkeling. Then we'll head down to central Vietnam, near Hoi An (where clothes are made) to see Hue, the cultural/historical capital, and try surfing at China Beach.

Things with Bertrand are going well. He's a nice guy (!!!!), and we're having fun together. He does some very bizarre things, like holding my hand in public, acknowledging me as his girlfriend in front of his friends.. basically, behaving like a human being, but not at all like a stupid boy. Very suspicious, but we'll see what happens.

I miss you all. I think you should come and live in Korea for the next 6 months, too! We can form a motorbike gang! There is no flaw in this plan.
